Have you noticed that one quote from the Barbie movie ended up everywhere on social media? The one where Gloria said, “It is literally impossible to be a woman.”
As a parent to a teen girl, how often have you wanted to repeat Gloria’s next sentence to your daughter… “You are so beautiful and so smart, and it kills me that you think you are not good enough!”?
Gloria’s quote went viral on social media because it resonated. It IS hard to be a woman—especially a teen trying to navigate the gauntlet of social media, peer pressure, perfectionism, body image, imposter syndrome, friendships, school transitions… the list goes on and on.
At New Roots we have heard your call and created a program designed expressly to help your teen daughter develop skills to navigate these life stresses.
In a small group setting, over six weeks, we will get to know one another and learn skills including:
- Mindfulness
- Distress Tolerance
- Emotion Regulation, and
- Interpersonal Effectiveness (building and sustaining healthy relationships)
Each week will bring a new module and an opportunity for our group to connect, share stories, and build support, knowing we are all in this together!
Led by one of our New Roots counselors who specializes in working with adolescents, Abigail Scallan, and our incoming intern Molly Macpherson, we hope your teen will join us for this timely dialectical behavior therapy skill-building class. Sessions will be held virtually over Zoom on Monday evenings from 7-8pm beginning Monday, October 2.
We can only accept 8 participants for this developmental group so don’t wait!
